Local Agencies Aim to Combat Poverty in Syracuse
Agencies across Central New York are increasing their efforts to fight poverty in Syracuse.
Greater Syracuse HOPE, an anti-poverty initiative, stands for bringing Healing, Opportunity, Prosperity and Empowerment to Syracuse, and it is in its next phase of changing policies that keep people in poverty.
Poverty rates from 2000 to 2013 have almost doubled. Councilor-at-large Helen Hudson and those working on the Greater Syracuse HOPE are now moving forward on the initiative identifying major barriers faced by impoverished community.
